CSMA Shows it's Good to Talk at MEDTEC

CSMA (Centre for Surface and Materials Analysis) proved it was good to talk at this year’s MEDTEC Ireland. The world leading surface analysis expert gave all visitors to the stand a chance to win the latest in mobile handset technology – a Nokia E70 Smart Phone.

Shaun Bainbridge of CSMA commented: “At CSMA we use state-of-the-art equipment, combined with unrivalled expertise, to deliver those within the medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries clear and accurate solutions to a wide range of product problems and issues.

“With this in mind we felt that the Smart Phone, with its cutting edge technology, was a fitting prize to give away.”

The lucky winner was Aine Ruddy from Boston Scientific in Galway.

But the chance to win a new high-tech phone was not the only thing driving people to the CSMA stand at this year’s show. R&D professionals, manufacturing engineers and medical device companies alike were all keen to discover more about the range of analytical services that CSMA offers, including the development and delivery of novel and routine test and characterisation methods.

In particular, CSMA used this year’s show to promote its cleanliness validation system (Validata) which is aimed at existing processes, new products and products still in research. The technology can also be applied to novel surfaces and materials such as Bio-Polymers, in determining the degree of functionalisation of surface chemistries vital in the performance of Bio-Arrays, and wound treatment products.

Receiving a Validata certification can assist in gaining regulatory approval, process control and in the development of orthopaedic implants, implantable devices and other invasive devices / materials.

Shaun Bainbridge continued: “The scope of solutions that we offer the medical industry is vast which is why face-to-face shows such as MEDTEC Ireland provide a valuable opportunity for us to explain in greater detail the various applications of surface analysis and characterization techniques. The show was a big success.”
