CSMA Examines Medical Devices
The standard suite of tests includes determination of frictional and wear parameters and dynamic contact angle analysis to investigate the hydrophilicity of catheter tubing. Topographic properties and coating thickness and uniformity are also determined. This standard suite of tests uses techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and 3DP profiling to characterise the surface of the catheter tubing. Tony Kinsella, Managing Director of CSMA said “We are a surface technology company, and when clients need to characterise surfaces, we respond. Sometimes that means developing new methods and standards, a facility for which we are ideally placed” Currently there are no industry standards for testing of catheter tubing,
therefore CSMA has designed a standard suite of tests to help the catheter
manufacturing industry research and develop their products.
