Coating Defects

Defects in coatings can range from blisters on the surface through to delaminations and disbondments in the layered stack.

A combination of techniques such as optical microscopy, TEM, SIMS and XPS can be utilised to:

• Identify surface contaminants and stains
• Analyse blisters
• Determine the coating composition
• Determine the layer composition
• Investigate problems within the stack.
